Jana and Scott Smith are redefining the term “work spouse.” Husband and wife both at home and at the office, Jana and Scott met in 1991 while attending dental school at Medical University of South Carolina. In 1995, in a matter of months, they graduated from MUSC, got married, and founded Smith Family Dentistry, purchasing Mauldin’s first-ever dental practice from two retiring dentists who had been partners since the 1960s.
Having both grown up in small communities, it was in a small community Scott and Jana decided they wanted to live and work. Mauldin proved to be the perfect town for expanding their practice and starting their family. Beginning with a vision and a few loyal patients, Scott and Jana have experienced tremendous growth over the past 21 years. In 2003, they built a new, updated office—our current location off of Butler Road—and they see patients today whose parents and grandparents have been with them since day one.
Members of the American Dental Association, the South Carolina Dental Association, and the Greenville County Dental Society, Jana and Scott love what they do. They love working with families and the variety of care they have the opportunity to provide. Because they are general dentists, they see and treat lots of different problems. Every day brings a different set of procedures. The variety keeps them fresh and energized.
At home, Scott and Jana enjoy spending time with their daughter Kylee and son Connor. If they aren’t at the office, you’re likely to find Scott and Jana cheering on Kylee’s volleyball and Connor’s baseball teams. During football season, you can bet they’ll be watching University of South Carolina football. And if he’s not rallying behind Kylee, Connor, or the Gamecocks, Scott’s probably buying or playing a 1980s-era arcade video game. He is an avid vintage arcade game collector as well as a huge Star Wars fan.
